Pantone Colour of the Year 2018

Ultra Violet has been announced as the 2018 Pantone Colour of the Year. Created with just the right amount of red and blue this empowering colour Pantone describes this colour as provocative and thoughtful and “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us towards the future.”

They also add that "Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality."

Colours of which are selected for the colour of the year are chosen on a range of factors which can include the entertainment industry, films, art, fashion and lifestyle.

Pantone's annual event has been running for 19 years and has had a big influence on purchasing industries and product development in various industries such as fashion, interior design and most importantly graphic design.
